Mission & Aims
Holy Family Parish Community Creche works to ensure that the social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs will be identified and provided for with due care and attention and in such a manner as will offer a reliable service for parents / carers in the Holy Family parish, seeking whenever possible to enhance the quality of the children's total experience of childhood.
The history of the Holy Family Community Creche dates back to 1993. A group of local women including a public health nurse, a community development worker and parents from the Muirhevnamor area formed a committee to consider the possibility to establishing a creche in the area. In 1994, there dream was realised when a creche opened in a partially renovated old church with funding from the Dept of Social Welfare, Dundalk Employment partnership and the North Eastern Health Board. Staffed exclusively through FAS community Employment the new service catered for 16 children in one room. Demand for the service was unprecedented and the Holy Family Community creche continued to develop through funding from a range of sources including Peace and Reconciliation and the Dept of Justice, Equality & Law reform. The Parish donated the remainder of the original church building and by 1997 the service was catering for 50 children and a team of community employed staff were working alongside qualified childcare workers.
